How this course runs

This is not a video course. All 20 classes are taught live, on Zoom or Google Meet, with your instructor and the rest of the group at a fixed time each week. You speak, you get corrected, and you can stop and ask a question the way you would in a room.

It runs in 4 sections, from “Intermediate grammar” through to “JLPT N3 review”, in that order, one section at a time.

Between classes the group has its own WhatsApp thread, where your instructor answers questions himself rather than a support desk.

What you will learn

N3 is where Japanese stops being a set of sentences and becomes a conversation. You connect ideas the way a native speaker does, through cause, contrast, condition and inference, and you explain a problem, give the reason behind an opinion, and keep going for longer than a few exchanges.

Listening changes shape at this level. Instead of catching individual words you follow a long explanation, take notes while it runs, and hear what was implied rather than said. Reading does the same: notices, practical articles and messages from work become information you act on instead of exercises you decode.

The last block is timed, because N3 is as much about speed as knowledge. Reading and listening against the clock, weekly vocabulary and kanji review, then a full mock paper and feedback on what your mistakes have in common.

Before you start

You should be comfortable with both kana and the everyday kanji, standing on a solid N4 foundation or the equivalent from time spent speaking. N3 asks for more time outside class than the levels below it: the reading and listening assignments get longer, and their length is the point.
